Up and out early this morning for a planned boat ride across the Two Medicine Lake and a hike in the Two Medicine Valley, for the Blackfeet the holiest spot in the park.
We planned on making the 10 o’clock boat, but the Montana winds are whipping today in full, gusting blows and the white caps on the lake didn’t make the boat ride look especially inviting. Once again, we fell into a great alternative plan.
There is a trailhead at the boat landing which leads to the Twin Waterfall via a beautiful hike through the forest, meadows and marsh lands. The winds were much quieter in the forest and we had a beautiful hike. The payoff was yet again a stunning waterfall and a lovely place for our picnic lunch.
Luanne scrambled across the stream and scaled the cliff to the top of the waterfall. She reported that around the corner which we couldn’t see from the base was at least another 100 feet of cascading falls.
Luanne and Diane were determined to find a moose, and in the middle of the back county started trying to whistle one in. That was about as successful as all the other attempts to see one! Lu has had binoculars plastered to her eyes scanning the mountains everywhere we go and has found nothing living.
The lack of wildlife sightings has been puzzling. Yellowstone’s herds of buffalo and elk were scarce. Here in wild Glacier we’ve seen just the one bear and some trout.
We’re back in early today and using the time to get caught up on laundry again!
