Taos, NM Thursday

We left Bandelier this morning and we all agreed it had been a wonderful stop. Our next destination was Chamayo, NM. The drive over was a bit eventful as we followed a map a woman at the Park gift shop gave me. The "road" on the map was no longer, and we headed down a pretty small road that looked totally wrong and no place to turn around. I saw a man ahead of me pull over and stopped to ask him if we were on the right road. He said it was with a few turns and offered to lead us to the right road. He was a bit speedy and Luanne and Deb thought they'd been left behind while I took off with my new "boyfriend"!

We all finally arrived in Chamayo where we had lunch at Rancho de Chamayo, a restaurant that looks like a little run down house from the outside but is pretty large and has wonderful northern New Mexican food. My shrimp fajita was spicy and good!

From there we visited the Sanctuario de Chamayo, a small old adobe mission church which claims to have had may miracles performed there. The church is still used and after you go through the sanctuary there are two little rooms to the left. One is filled with discarded crutches and pictures and notes, the other has a little hole dug in the center of it with "holy dirt". Luanne was very skeptical of the whole thing, but I convinced her she needed to take some dirt to her Mother who is very devout.

After our visit there we took the High Road to Taos. It was so beautiful, climbing and dropping and twisting and turning, pretty beautiful. We are in an RV park in Taos tonight, feel like we are back in civilization with the internet and TV. We're planning on staying here three nights
and then back to boonies to fish and camp at Cimmaron Canyon State Park.
