SUNDAY MORNING IN GOD'S CATHEDRAL

We awoke to another beautiful day and decided to head out for a hike before the sun heated things up to the upper 90's as predicted.

Luanne found a dog friendly hike that sounded good in Hunter's Canyon.  The hike, as you will see, was pretty awesome and the drive into the Canyon was an adventure.  Crazy little shacks built into the side of the cliff, caves utilized as living space, unpaved, switch back roads and we were finally at the trailhead!

The trail led us through the bottom of the canyon with pools of water, dried up riverbed, an arch to walk through and huge walls of red sandstone looming over us.  It was just enough, we went back in a mile until the trail arrived at a river that had to be forded, and while some of us would have gone forward, the rest of us thought it had been a fine hike and were ready to make our way back.

  1. Oh, what a great hike for you gals! I was hoping it would be cooler for you--we were there in July! Heat was unbearable. Rich and I retreated early, too. At Arches, we went before sun up (no one was at the gate) and we were leaving by the time people were coming in around 9 a.m. so we could beat the heat. There are several beautiful drives--one along the river ... cannot think of the name of the road...oh Potash, I think--we did them in the heat of the day. Then we'd go back to the parks in the evening--I have video our visits to Moab--I was narrating about the fast flying birds that were all over the place--turned out they were bats! They come out at dusk. Few people were in the Arches during the times we went so could enjoy the silence. There are several neat drives in the area; and of course Canyonlands is right up the road and Dead Horse Park wasn't far if my memory serves me right.

Love the blog. Everyone looks so happy. Thanks for "taking me along". :)
