March 13 Holly Springs, MS

Chewalla Lake National Forest Campground was our destination for night two.  I had hoped to explore Holly Springs, MS before moving on to Alabama, but rain was with me the entire trip. We had a break long enough to set up camp and have a nice walk, but not for roaming through town.  Holly Springs has over 200 beautiful old antebellum homes, and just driving through town to get to the campground was a treat.  The town is just south of Memphis and is worth the drive if you are in the area.

Chewalla Lake is a pretty little campground, a swimming lake and walking trails all over.  It looks as if it would be a very popular spot during the summer, but in the cold rain there were only two of us camping along with the camp host.

The camp host had quite an interesting setup, as you can see!  He was a character to match his home, and evangelic minister who loved the Lord's outdoors!!  I enjoyed talking with him for a few minutes before we headed out in the morning.

Still raining....next stop Alexander City, AL
