I'm in Alexander City, AL to visit old friends Mary Lloyd and Robert. They've moved into a new house since I've last visited so it was a double treat to see them and their new abode. Their area is quite hilly, but Saffire had no trouble, scraping the bike rack just a bit when we pulled into their driveway.
After lots of visiting and a wonderful dinner the first evening, Mary Lloyd and I decided to go to Wind Creek Campground at Lake Martin for the next two nights. We made a visit to a great new grocery store at the Lake and then found a wonderful site on a point at the Lake.
It was raining when we pulled in, and continued to rain almost constantly for the next two days. Day one about four o'clock the sky cleared and we thought we'd have a nice day for hiking and exploring to follow. We sat on the beach and had cocktails and watched the boats go by. We had a beautiful sunset before we retreated to Saffire for the night, and yes, the rain began again. It was a tropical rain, straight down and as if someone had a bucket they just dumped and dumped on you.
It continued to rain through the next afternoon, and we later learned that a record 6.5 inches of rain had come down!! Saffire had a small leak over the door I'll have to look into, but it took the very worst of the rain for the leak to start.
We survived with good conversation, good food, good movies and good books! The payoff was coming out of Saffire Monday evening and looking up to a sky so full of stars it left you speechless!
One more evening back at home in Alex City, leaving for Charleston, SC with many thanks to Mary Lloyd and Robert!!!
Looks like you are having a great time. Enjoy your first trip!! Can't wait to see where you go.
